UPDATED RACE REGULATIONS – 30.07.26

Tyre Width Guidance for the 3 Peaks Cyclo-cross.
Schwalbe Tyres has supported the 3 Peaks Cyclo-cross over the last couple of years.
Tim Ward of Schwalbe Tyres has provided the following technical clarification, which is fully supported by the 3 Peaks team.
Regulation Change
The tyre regulations have changed to allow tyre widths up to 700 x 38C, replacing the previous limit of 700 x 35C.
Schwalbe Size Markings
Some Schwalbe tyres that riders may use for the 3 Peaks no longer show the French metric size designation on the sidewall. Instead, they display:
• the ETRTO ISO size: 40-622
• the US imperial size: 28 x 1.50
The ETRTO designation 40-622 is equivalent to both 700 x 38C and 28 x 1.50. Schwalbe’s tyre-dimension FAQ includes an example using these exact dimensions: https://www.schwalbe.com/en/technology-faq/tire-dimensions/
Reference Guide
The ETRTO equivalence guide on page 7 of Schwalbe’s Technical Guide also lists the equivalent values: 40-622, 28 x 1.50, and 700 x 38C. See: https://www.schwalbe.com/…/Schwalbe-TechInfo-2015_GB.pdf
Please note that there has historically been a 2 mm difference between the ISO stated width and the French metric width.
Accepted Tyre Width
The permitted tyre width therefore includes the equivalent ISO designation of 40-622.
